Dom is a Grammy Award winning musician, slam poet, singer-songwriter who co-founded the Carolina Chocolate Drops and won a GRAMMY in 2010 for Best Traditional Folk Album , “Genuine Negro Jig” as well as having a second GRAMMY nominated album in 2014. Flemons now tours Internationally as “The American Songster’ performing a repertoire of music that covers nearly 100 years of American folklore, ballads, and tunes. He performs at prestigious venues, such as, Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry, the Opening Ceremony for the National Museum of African American History, Newport Folk Festival and represented the United States at the 2017 Rainforest World Music Festival in Kuching, Malaysia. A multi-instrumentalist, playing the banjo, guitar, harmonica, fife, bones, bass drum, snare drum, and quills, in addition to singing. His performance is in the old-time traditional roots music, ragtime, Piedmont blues, spirituals, string band music, jug band music and ballads with showmanship and humor. In 2018, Flemons will release his first solo album titled “Dom Flemons Presents Black Cowboys” on GRAMMY Award winning record label Smithsonian Folkways. This recording is part of the African American Legacy Recordings series, co-produced with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
